I created this site because I am concerned about West Islip's future. I believe that to rely on the Board of Ed and other special interest groups to give us the full story behind the issues facing us as a community is irresponsible. I believe that this community needed a place to go where people can find hard to find information, generate and spread ideas and give context to the issues we face as a whole because many people have information that they would like to share with others but never had a place to do so. This site will serve that purpose.
Also, many people simply do not have the time to do the research, attend the meetings and be as "hands on" as they may wish they could be. Hopefully this site will help people get the information they need to be informed about what is happening around town and to help them make informed decisions.
It is my vision that people will use this site to post information that others may find valuable as well as to be fact based and grounded in the truth. I will do my best to ensure that personal attacks and rumor mongering never appears here. We need to work together as a community, not be at each others throats.
I will offer my own opinion and encourage others to do so as well in the In My Opinion and Other Forums section.

News Flash!!!
PROPOSITION #2 passes by a vote of 1,773 to 706.
This will help ensure that every BOE Trustee election is a contested one with no
trustee being elected in an unopposed race.
School Budget passes 1,617 to 1,022. Includes a 3.75% Tax levy increase as well as a 4% on average raise in pay for teachers, cuts in programs and further pain inflicted on the students and taxpayers of West Islip.

beware of those who spread rumors and lies
The internet is a wonderful medium for people to exchange information. Unfortunately sites such as the West Islip Patch and Topix allow people to spread false information posted under anonymous names without regard for the truth or facts. It is also unfortunate that people can simply represent themselves as someone or something they are not in order to discredit and/ or disparage others.

The 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects our freedom of speech. It is also a protection of our freedom and liberty because dissenting and opposing viewpoints are a necessary part of a free society. But those dissenting and opposing viewpoints must be based in truth. Unfortunately there are many in our society, and even in West Islip, who seek to silence those with whom they disagree. That is wrong. That is un-American.

Help Is Needed
The Citizens Board of West Islip hopes that you have found the information provided here useful and informative. But there is a lot more that can be done. With that in mind the CBofWI would like to expand the scope of its activities for the residents of West Islip and is seeking people who would like to volunteer some of their time and donate their expertise to making this organization and this web site better and even more impactful. If you can help, some of the advice/ assistance we can use is as follows:
*What are the requirements to set up as a not for profit organization and can you assist us in accomplishing that?
*What about contributions? How do we go about setting up the ability to accept contributions from people who would like to give financially to help us grow? What are the tax/ legal ramifications?
*Who can offer legal advice as far as the type of information we can post here?
*How can we make the web site more effective?
*Who can help get the word out about what we are trying to accomplish?
*...and anything else that can help this organization in its mission to help the community.
The CBofWI firmly believes in relying on the actions and dedication of everyday citizens to help make our community a vibrant and growing one.
We do not believe in waiting for others to do something for us...we will take care of ourselves.
We believe in Liberty; Individual Responsibility and Limited Government.
Finally, we believe that it all starts right here, in our own town, and from our town we can effect changes that spread far beyond our own backyard, but we must first start right here...in West Islip.
